The Memory Clinic offers an outpatient opportunity for people living in the community to be assessed and followed by a team of memory deficit specialists. A treatment plan, including medication mangement and/or specialized treatment may be recommended. Patient and families are provided with education and counseling regarding their diagnosis, as well as community based resources and support systems.


THE MEMORY CLINIC TEAM MEMBERS


Dr. Funk + Dr. LiguoriJanice Funk, PhD., Neuropsychologist
Dr. Janice Funk is a clinical neuropsychologist with over 25 years experience in the assessment of brain-behavior relationships. She is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and received her postdoctoral training in neuropsychology at The University of Houston and Baylor College of Medicine. She was awarded a NIH fellowship in geriatrics at The University of Texas Health Science Center and is an associate editor of Cognition and Aging.



Dr. Paul Liguori, Medical Director / Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
Dr. Liguori earned a Bachelor of Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey and a Doctor of Medicine Degree from State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine. Dr. Liguori completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation and a Master of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine. Dr. Liguori is board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and is a consulting physician at the Wound Healing Center at Anna Jacques Hospital. He is involved in training of residents in Rehabilitation Medicine as Assistant Clinical Professor at Boston University School of Medicine, Department of Rehabilitation Medicine.


Dr. Robert Portney, Psychiatrist
Dr. Portney earned a Bachelors degree from Harvard College, graduating cum laude and a Doctor of Medicine Degree from Yale Medical School. Dr. Portney is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with a sub-specialty certification in Geriatric Psychiatry. Dr. Portney is a Clinical Associate in Psychiatry at McLean Hospital, a Clinical Instructor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, and a supervising physician for geriatric fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital.

 

A neuropsychological evaluation is recommended for any case in which brain-based impairment in coginitve function or behavior is suspected. Typical referrals are made to diagnose or rule out the following conditions, and to describe their impact on a person's coginitve functioning:

  • Dementing conditions (e.g. Alzheimer's Disease)
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Strokes
  • Developmental learning disabilities
  • Attention deficit disorders
  • Psychiatric or neuropsychiatric disorders
  • Seizure disorders
  • Medical illness or treatments
  • Effects of toxic chemicals or chronic substance abuse

The Whittier Memory Clinic is open on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10:00am – 2:00pm.
