Masconomet Healthcare Center welcomes new Medical Director, James D. Tollman, MD, F.H.M.
Masconomet Healthcare Center is pleased to announce that Dr. James D. Tollman, Hospitalist and Fellow in Hospital Management, joined us as our new Medical Director earlier this year.
Kim Grasso, Administrator at Masconomet said “Dr. Tollman has worked for many years in Long Term Care providing high quality care to residents, and he is well respected by his peers. We are quite fortunate to have him join our team.”
Dr. Tollman attended the Tufts University Family Practice Residency program and graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Medicine. He completed his undergraduate BA in biology from Carleton College in MN, and served as an active duty Infantry officer in the US Army for 5 years.
Prior to his work as an acute care Hospitalist, Dr. Tollman was a primary care physician with the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA. He was the founding hospitalist of the Lawrence General Hospital group, and its first Medical Director. He then became the managing partner of Arbor Inpatient Physicians, a single specialty group which provided hospitalist coverage for six hospitals in MA and CT, covering 980 total beds with 28 physicians.
Dr. Tollman is also the founder, president and CEO of Essex Inpatient Physicians (EIP). He founded the group in 2007 with the goal of providing quality hospitalist medical care to the broader North Shore, Massachusetts community. In addition to its core competency in traditional inpatient hospitalist medicine, EIP has also provided long-term acute care hospitalist coverage. Dr. Tollman later contracted EIP to be the sole provider of medical coverage at the first psychiatric hospital to be established in Massachusetts in over 70 years. As a part of this effort, Dr. Tollman directed 24/7 on-site coverage and collaborated with hospital administration to create all medical protocols de-novo.
More recently, Dr. Tollman and EIP have broadened its focus to include post-acute care. The group now also provides medical coverage at six local SNFs in the North Shore area and two specialty rehabilitation hospitals serving the northern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire communities.
