Port and Whittier help raise $100,000 for the Jimmy V. Foundation as excercise club spins all night to fight cancer
Jeffrey Gangi, Administrator of Port Healthcare Center, was one of more than a thousand"spinners" participating in a fundraiser held at the Latitude Sports Club in Methuen. He, along with the others, was focused on raising cash for the V Foundation, which is committed to curing cancer in the name of North Carolina State University Basketball coach Jim Valvano, a victim of a battle with cancer.
The idea is simple: A group of people pledge to ride the stationary bikes as a relay team for 24 hours. Jeffrey Gangi from Port was able to ride a total of 9 hours - 4 on Friday and 5 on Saturday. The bike he rode was sponsored by Whittier, which was clearly displayed on the banner for the event both inside, and outside on the main road. Whittier was honored to be a part of this worthy event, especially because it was so successfulthe amount raised was the largest ever for a single event. So thanks to all who pedalled away through the night!

December 18, 2006
Dear Jeff,
We thank you and Whittier heartily for the great job you and your staff did to make our 10th annual meeting so successful. We were very pleased with the attractive table arrangements, your courtesy in supplying the podium and screen for Delia O'Connor and, above all, the delicious and generous refreshments for our group. Many attendees commented on their quality and variety. Please extend our thanks to your staff and to your residents if they were inconvenienced in any way by our utilizing the dining room.
Without an office and struggling to promote a Senior Center, we are grateful for your hosting of this non-profit group. Our members have gained a very positive feeling of your necessary role in our community.
Cheerful wishes for the holiday season and a special thank-you.
Sincerely,
Olga MacFarlane
