Whittier Way: A Unique Rehabilitation Setting
Whittier’s acute rehabilitation hospitals in Bradford and Westborough, Massachusetts each have a unique setting for our physical and occupational therapists to help patients progress and practice personal care tasks and everyday skills in a controlled indoor environment.
Unique indoor rehabilitation concept
“Whittier Way” is a realistic community re-entry area that allows patients to practice everyday skills such as getting in and out of a car, grocery shopping, and even golfing. In this setting, patients are able to regain the ability and confidence to perform necessary daily tasks in a safe, convenient way.
Whittier Way features include:
- Full size automobile, curbs and ramps which help patients regain skills in driving and mobility
- Grocery store with realistic aisles and carts
- Game room with large screen TV and Nintendo Wii with Wii Fit
- Simulated golf green
- Functioning movie theatre
- Fully operational ATM
- Activities of daily living (ADL) apartment
- Whittier Bistro Cafe
Simulated golf green
Our state-of-the-art golf simulator helps those who are recovering from surgery, those with specific injuries and conditions, and those who experience pain while playing golf. Our simulator is incorporated into our physical therapy programs and is an excellent therapeutic tool, providing a safe environment to practice swings and recover from injuries without the fear of exacerbating a physical condition.

Activities of daily living (ADL) apartment
The activities of daily living apartment is one of the most important features of Whittier Way. It allows Whittier’s occupational therapists to help patients practice cooking, washing dishes, laundry, and bed-making, all of which are needed for a successful return to daily living.
Whittier Way also features the Whittier Bistro Café which serves delicious meals and snacks for patients, visitors, and staff; as well as a gift shop with a nice selection of merchandise.

Get back to your best life
Whittier Way’s unique features assist our rehabilitation teams in helping our patients progress toward their goals and restoring as fully as possible the skills, confidence, and independence needed to return to a quality, satisfying life.
Whittier Way is available at our hospitals for patients who are with us for inpatient rehabilitation, and for those who still need therapy on an outpatient basis. Our goal is to help you get back to your best life! Contact us for more information.
